The project for Palazzo Ruspoli Hotel began with a deep act of listening to the existing architecture. A listening shaped by light, voids, heights, and proportions — all preserving a distinctly Florentine idea of dwelling, gradually weakened over time by interventions that had altered its original balance. In the heart of Florence, this historic residence is reinterpreted not simply as a place to stay, but as a more intimate, refined, and personal form of hospitality.
The intervention does not seek to add, but to restore. To restore breath to the spaces, verticality to the rooms, silence to the proportions. Every gesture is measured, every decision essential, as if the architecture could once again speak in a natural and understated voice.
Colour becomes part of the narrative. A deep green, resonating with the historic tones of Florence, moves through the interiors like a distant memory. Patterns rhythmically mark the surfaces, evoking ancient signs translated into a contemporary language capable of bringing freshness without erasing history. Materiality, too, preserves and transmits: reclaimed historic flooring, forged iron, and crafted details introduce a presence that is both strong and restrained, giving the interiors depth and character.
The concept interprets the palazzo not as a relic, but as a living organism. A place where history does not become nostalgia, but design substance. The result is a hospitality design project in Florence where contemporary elegance, architectural identity, and comfort coexist with ease, clearly expressing Luigi Fragola Architects’ approach to historic buildings: to listen to them, lighten them, and guide them into a new life.
