In the heart of Florence, just a few steps from Santa Maria Novella, H Zero Museum transforms a private passion into an immersive and unexpected public experience. Housed within the former Ariston cinema, the museum is built around one of the largest model railways in Europe, creating a new architectural narrative where urban memory, movement and imagination coexist naturally.
At the centre of the project is a 280-square-metre H0-scale railway model developed over more than forty years. Trains, landscapes, stations, bridges and countless miniature scenes form a world in constant motion, suspended between meticulous craftsmanship and cinematic imagination.
The interior and exhibition design does more than contain the model railway: it shapes the experience around it. Circulation, lighting, pauses and carefully positioned viewpoints guide visitors through a sequence of perspectives, turning the visit into a narrative of anticipation, discovery and wonder.
The memory of the former cinema is preserved and reinterpreted through a measured intervention that gives the building a new public life without erasing its identity. The architecture remains deliberately understated, creating the conditions for space, content and visitors to engage with one another.
H Zero Museum thus becomes a contemporary cultural destination for enthusiasts, adults and children alike, where model railways are presented not simply as a technical discipline, but as a form of imagination, craftsmanship and storytelling.
